vCom bowlers showed their skills (and lack thereof) yesterday at the annual East Bay Junior Achievement Financial Success Bowl-A-Thon at Danville Bowl in Danville, California. The Bowl-A-Thon strives to raise $25,000 to provide students in the East Bay with JA programs on entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
Our bowling champion was our fearless CEO and JA Board Member, Gary Storm. He was closely challenged, but not surpassed, by Joe Condy, EVP of Sales, and Josie Carlin, vCom’s Recruiting Manager. Yours truly, VP of Marketing Leslie Leach, turned in a whopping score of 49!
vCom is an enthusiastic supporter of Junior Achievement in Northern California. Junior Achievement is a non-profit organization that teaches young people about money management and how business works. In the 2012-2013 school year, the Northern California chapter will reach more than 126,000 students in Northern and Central California. vCom CEO, Gary Storm, services on the Board of JA Northern California.
Earlier this year, vCom volunteers had a blast teaching local second graders at Hidden Hills Elementary School in San Ramon, CA. The kids learned about the different jobs available in their local economy, got to run a donut shop where they learned unit production vs. assembly line production, and used a rap song to learn about the flow of money through the economy. Both teachers and kids had a great time and learned a lot from each other, although as one volunteer teacher commented about the second graders – “they’re a lot tougher than they look.”
