Miller Starr Regalia Partners with vCom for
Telecom Management
National law firm deploys vConnect and vManager to effectively manage communication services |

The Challenge
Miller Starr Regalia (MSR) has played a dominant role in the shaping of
real estate law in California. MSR is the author of Miller & Starr California
Real Estate 3d, the treatise that has been recognized for more than 25 years
by both courts and practitioners as the state’s leading authority on real
property law. As the preeminent real estate property law firm in California,
MSR is focused on helping its clients achieve their goals, and is committed
to building and maintaining a well-informed, productive, decision-making
relationship and partnership with them. As such, it is equally important
that a partnership with its vendors is based on similar values.
The Solution
MSR partnered with vCom Solutions for the management of its telecommunication
services. Over a period of 6 months, vCom worked with MSR's IT Department
to cost-effectively overhaul its communication infrastructure, and build
a robust and fault tolerant environment that would enable MSR to continue
to achieve its goals and objectives.
On the voice front, vCom worked with MSR's phone system vendor on an enterprise
system upgrade, and replaced analog services with digital technology for
both the Walnut Creek and Palo Alto offices. vCom implemented both inbound
and outbound fault tolerance, allowing the two offices to act as failover
for one another, as part of disaster recovery, or in case of hardware or
network failure.
On the data and Internet front, vCom first deployed a new Wide Area Network
linking the offices, reducing MSR's monthly cost, while tripling the bandwidth
and significantly improving network performance. Second, vCom replaced MSR's
Internet services, increasing bandwidth and introducing a Tier 1 service
provider with a robust national backbone, and a superior Service Level Agreement
(SLA). vCom worked with MSR's IT Department to build data fault tolerance
via a backup VPN solution between the offices. This robust solution would
allow for enhanced data, and enable future voice and video services between
the offices.
The Outcome
The transition to vCom's new services was seamless. A subsequent fiber outage
demonstrated the effectiveness of the fault-tolerant design, with users
and calls not being impacted, and further showcased the support that vCom
provides its customers.
"I can honestly say that we had high expectations when we decided to move
forward with vCom," said Kathryn McCarthy, Miller Starr Regalia's Director
of Technology, and the East Bay Rep for the International Legal Technology
Association (ILTA). "vCom has definitely met, and often exceeded our expectations.
The cut-over process to new services went very smoothly."
"We are honored to have earned Miller Starr Regalia's trust," said Sameer
Hilal, COO of vCom. "Our values on how to partner with your clients are
very similar. MSR has embraced technology as a means of continuing to make
strides in supporting its clients. We're looking forward to a great partnership,
and enabling MSR to focus on effectively managing its business."
