Competitive and Regulated Industry Poses Challenges
As a veteran CIO and executive, Jim Bygland is responsible for planning, budgeting and operational initiatives for the $2.5 billion commercial bank, including information services. Managing many departments is no small feat with Loan Operations & Servicing, Deposit Operations, Remittance Processing, Network Services, Database Administration, Business Intelligence, Information Security, Electronic Banking, and Project Management.
As Jim describes “banking is a very competitive and regulated industry,” and observes how, “as a smaller institution, we have to offer the same or better product set as any other bank regardless of size in the verticals that we want to participate in.” To achieve this, Jim adds that “Bank SNB uses a combination of partnering with good companies (like vCom) and also developing many of our own products to keep our costs down yet offer competitive and innovative products.

Picking the Right Banking Partner
Jim recalls that Bank SNB “is the second bank that I have leveraged vCom. I was very happy with the results so I implemented their solution at Bank SNB. I have been working with vCom for over 7 years. It was one of the first decisions that I made at SNB to bring vCom in.” Working with vCom’s Director of Business Development, Liz Carroll, for whom he describes as “a person of high integrity” he knew that vCom was a good company and that “Liz always delivers what she promised.”
Jim’s previous experience working with vCom helped to get things off to a great start at Bank SNB. “Given my previous relationship with vCom, we just started with the same services that vCom had successfully delivered at WCB.” Right from the get-go, Jim recalls, Bank SNB found in vCom “a partner who reviewed my current set-up, designed a plan for a more robust network with the promise of decreased expense.” Since then, he adds, “in addition to the data communications and phone lines, we have added mobile phone management.”
Transformative Results with 30% reduction in costs
Among the many benefits of working with vCom as a partner in telecom, data, and mobile communications management, Jim observes, vCom “provided the expertise to implement a robust communications network that I did not have to supply staff for. It allowed me to outsource and leverage my staff for other projects.”
Jim also points to Bank SNB’s “reduced cost of over 30%” as especially noteworthy. Having twice partnered with vCom with such positive results, Jim is impressed to discover “vCom is one of the rare vendors that consistently deliver and over-deliver on what they have promised. From my standpoint, I don’t have to spend much if any time managing vCom, they deliver.”
