Two Bay Area Firms Honored by Interactive Media Council

SAN RAMON, CA–(Marketwire – Oct 30, 2012) – vCom Solutions, a Telecom Expense Management company based in San Ramon, California, faced a challenge. Most of the multi-location, mid-market companies that it targets are not aware that telecom expense management (TEM) even exists. Further, vCom’s approach is unique to the industry. Telling such a novel and complicated story was daunting.

With the help of Bay Area web design firm, Marissa Berger Interactive (mb/i), vCom undertook a complete website overhaul with the goal to educate its target market that there is a better option than trying to manage multiple bills, deal with difficult carriers, and endure the lack of inventory visibility common in telecom. Further, vCom needed to make prospective customers feel comfortable with a whole new way of managing a significant chunk of their operating expenses.

The mb/i team designed the site on the open-source content management system Drupal. The content organization was the biggest challenge of the project. To make it easy for readers to digest the story, and to find the pieces most relevant to them, the designer created a custom navigation system that made the complicated story much simpler to navigate. The other strategic imperative was to feature plentiful customer testimonials, third party research, and news items, to give the vCom approach credibility and trust, since it is relatively unknown in the market.

This week, both firms were honored by the Interactive Media Council for Outstanding Achievement in website design for achieving those goals with the website The vCom site was selected from 42 applicants in the “telecommunications” category.

The award was based on five criteria — design, content, feature functionality, usability, and standards compliance & cross browser compatibility. China Telecom was also awarded an Outstanding Achievement award in this category.

The Interactive Media Council, Inc. (IMC) is a nonprofit organization of leading web designers, developers, programmers, advertisers and other web-related professionals. The competition is designed to elevate the standards of excellence on the Internet and offer winners a boost in marketing and exposure.

Prior to joining vCom, Audrey was the Chief Marketing Officer of Energy Recovery Inc (NASDAQ: ERII) from 2012-2015 and its VP of Marketing, joining the company as a small start-up organization in 2005. During her tenure, she led the global marketing strategies, built a disruptive global brand by growing revenue 5-fold from $10M to $50M, increased market share from 20% to 90% and completed an IPO. Audrey positioned the company for further growth by uncovering new applications – taking the company from $50M to $5B worth of addressable markets. She has championed product development in cross-functional teams with R&D, engineering and production to successfully launch new products globally.

As a result of building a strong brand, communications and culture, her work received 4 global industry awards in single year by Institute of Engineering and Innovation (IET). She was also recognized as an Innovation Finalist of the Year. Audrey served as a Board member of a non-profit, developed and promoted STEM programs and led philanthropic efforts for low-income families. She holds an MBA from Pepperdine University and a bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from Michigan State University.
